I was skeptical when ordering these Australian Glazed Apricots, because I have ordered candied fruit in the past and it has always tasted too sweet.  However, I’m happy to report that these apricots are some of the best candied fruits I have found!  The fruit is sweet but not over-sugary, and each apricot was large and delicious (over an ounce apiece).  The treats were also very filling, so the 24 ounce gift tin lasted longer then I expected.  The silver gift tin was decorated with a bright red bow, and is currently on sale at Superior Nut Store for $32.95.

My boys really love their daycare lady!  She treats them like they are one of her own and lavishes them with hugs, kisses and special treats.  That’s why we are sending her a number of gifts for her birthday this year.  She loves snacks – and will regularly make a large tub of snack mix that she happily shares with our entire family.  Although it may not taste the same as her homemade mix, we are going to send her this smiley-face tub that is filled with a number of snacks and tell her on the gift card that she doesn’t even have to share!  The 9 1/2″ tub contains 4 gourmet popcorn flavors, pretzels and fiesta snack mix – and when it’s empty it turns into a piggy bank.  The tub is available for $30 plus a very reasonable $8.95 shipping charge.

My friend Luke recently visited relatives in San Diego.  While he was there he attended a Superbowl party that was filled with different snacks then what would have been served at a party here in the midwest.  The snack that Luke remembers most fondly are the Whale Tails chips used for dipping.  He told me the chips had a unique shape, a great taste, and were the right size and thickness for dipping!  When he returned to Minnesota he looked for the chips but was unable to find them anywhere so he told me about them.  Knowing that I’m constantly surfing for tasty online gourmet foods, he asked for my help in locating these snacks.  He couldn’t remember the exact name but luckily there seems to be only 1 chip shaped like a whale’s tail so the website was pretty easy to find.  After reading about the chips and the company, I had to try some for myself.  When they arrived my husband and I sat down with a bag of chips and a bowl of fresh guacamole.  The chips were amazing – crunchy, thick (able to withstand a mega-dip), and had a unique salty taste.  I liked them with the dip, but preferred to eat them plain and savor the natural sea salt taste.  Whale Tails Chips are coated in Hawaiian Sea Salt with a touch of lime, and are made with all natural and organic ingredients.  We ordered a case of 6 – 9 oz bags for $20.94, and were even able to save a couple bags for Luke since he was the reason we found them in the first place!

I also found this company’s website very interesting.  The founders of the company are two lifelong friends who were on a surfing adventure when nothing less than divine inspiration hit them!  For the past 20 years, this duo has been working on their dream of making a delicious snack food and using the profits to preserve the whale population.  To read more about their story or to order the “Corn Chip with a Conscience”, go to whaletailschips.com.

Not only is Easter a time to overindulge on candy and hard-boiled eggs, it is also a time for me to reflect upon the many blessings I have been given.  One of my most treasured blessings is my family – both my husband and boys and my close-knit extended family.  We love to celebrate together as often as possible, but since my brother moved to Oregon last summer it’s not as easy.  To keep my brother, his wife and son included in our holiday traditions – even though we are separated by two thousand miles – we will order two of the same gift basket and have one sent to them while we share one here at home.  This year we found an Easter basket that will satisfy my sweet tooth, and will provide my sister-in-law with a new coffee flavor to try!

The large basket offered by Holiday Gifts & Gifts Baskets includes a fun Easter-themed basket that is filled with a great variety of snacks for kids and adults.  For $54, we will receive:

  • Spring Mix of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans
  • Milk Chocolate Bunny
  • Pecan Caramel Crunch
  • Milk Chocolate Egg
  • Berry Good Snack Mix
  • Danish Butter Cookies
  • Fancy Water Crackers
  • Cheddar Cheese Spread
  • Dutch Gouda Cheese Biscuits
  • Honey Roasted Peanuts
  • Eggstraordinary Blend Coffee
  • Sparkling Cider

When I’m craving something salty, a handful of pretzels is one of my favorite choices.  I also love going to the State Fair in the summer and ordering a jumbo soft pretzel with extra salt and hot cheese dip.  Until recently I had never experienced a hard rolled jumbo pretzel, but now that I have I think Pennsylvania Dutch Pretzels are my new salty snack addiction!  The pretzels created by Mumma Pretzel Bakery in Lancaster, PA have been hand rolled and baked in an extra-large deck oven since 1923.  The family owned company has been perfecting their recipe for over 80 years, and they have gained national recognition by shipping their Pennsylvania Dutch pretzels from coast to coast.

For my first experience with hard rolled pretzels, I chose the garlic flavor and found that I love to heat them slightly and dunk them in spaghetti sauce.  They are also great by themselves, although I need to keep some gum handy because the garlic flavor is pretty strong!  The 2 lb box arrived quickly and disappeared almost as quickly!  There are 6 hard pretzel flavors available, or you can choose soft pretzels.  A 2 lb box sells for $15.50 plus shipping.

The Easter Bunny is on his way, and soon our house will be littered with chocolate eggs, marshmallow peeps and dozens of hard boiled eggs in a rainbow of colors.  Easter is always a fun holiday, we love to get our extended family together for a mega-egg hunt.  The adults take special care to hide eggs that even my 13 year old nephew will have trouble finding, and we use a certain color egg for the younger children – the older kids know they aren’t allowed to “find” eggs of that color.

If you aren’t lucky enough to live near your loved ones, or if other circumstances will keep you apart this year, you can still share a bounty of Easter goodies with them!  This Easter Fun Basket offers candy, toys, games and a cute plush bunny.  All of these items are packaged in a colorful wicker basket for $50 plus shipping.
